The Off-Line world is a very dangerous place. People fall from great heights and injure themselves, people are robbed at gun point, all kinds of viruses, parasites, and wild animals roam the off-line world. There are even times when frozen water comes plummeting out of the sky!
Compare this to the relatively safe Internet. The chances of getting eaten by a wild animal or getting a bruise (other than maybe on your ego) are nonexistent.
The most interesting problems that can occur on the Internet are the same problems that occur in the on-line world with greater frequency and with most sophistication. All of the "new" Internet scams such as Phising, Identify Theft, and Investment scams are all well developed off-line. This scams are just benefiting from improvements bought about to any other business by the Internet and IT in general.
Just like the Internet has allowed small business to develop a global reach for their business, it has allowed criminals to develop the same reach.
Phising scams are really just a slightly new form of mail fraud. They are not a fundamentally new form of crime. Company Letterhead has always been forged.
