Coal Miners used canaries to detect poison gas seeping into a mine. Network Security people are using Intrusion detection and preventions devices and firewalls. Without some one watch either type of system they are not particular useful.

I am seeing more and more customers who are doing a good job of putting in security systems but not doing a good job of managing those security systems on a on-going basis. We need to develop better automated systems to allow them to get event information from these systems and create actionable recommendations.
